VIDEO: Zoom Into Books Many Genres One Craft Panel

I moderated a panel of contributors from Many Genres, One Craft: Lessons in Writing Popular Fiction for Zoom Into Books . MGOC (Headline Books, Inc.) is the writing guide I co-edited with Michael A. Arnzen and is based on Seton Hill University's MFA in Writing Popular Fiction program , where I teach. Aside from Mike and me, there was Jason Jack Miller , Timons Esaias , Lee Tobin McClain , Albert Wendland , and Tim Waggoner . We discuss the craft, genres, and business of writing.

EVENT: Doors to the Universe Book Signing at Copyleft Gallery (Photos)

EVENTS Thanks to Diane Turnshek , Barb Carlson , and Parsec for throwing a lovely event at Copyleft Gallery in Pittsburgh. The Doors to the Universe exposition combined science fiction and fantasy art and literature for a fun evening of food and conversation. Among the writers who were signing their books were Timons Esaias , Heidi Ruby Miller , Jason Jack Miller , Ellen Roth , Henry T. Lund , Stephanie Keyes , and J.D. Barker . Conference: 2011 Pennwriters Conference - A Retrospective

The energy at this year's Pennwriters Conference is still surging through me! I'm channeling it to work on two novellas in the Ambasadora-verse and finish up the second full-length novel in the series, so I barely have time for this post, but I had to give a little retrospective, mostly in photo form, like the one below of Jason and me with Saturday Keynote Speaker Jonathan Maberry. His speech should be required reading for the business--its theme was positivity and community, two sentiments I have always embraced when it comes to writing and the business of writing. Parties Jason and I recently attended Timons Esaias's 19th Annual Passage Party at his home in Pittsburgh, PA . Lots of wonderful selections were read by lots of interesting people, including some poetry in the original French, sea shanties, Bukowski selections, and "All You Can Hold for 5 Bucks" from McSorley's Wonderful Saloon by Joseph Mitchell from Tim. McSorley's Wonderful Saloon by Joseph Mitchell I chose some pages from Tom Rob Smith's novel Child 44 . It was one of the best books I've read this year. Child 44 by Tom Rob Smith Jason went with "Nemesis" a favorite essay of ours from Klosterman IV by Chuck Klosterman .
