VIDEOS I read from Ambasadora Book 1: Marked by Light during an AllAccessCon event, hosted by Raw Dog Screaming Press and Dog Star Books . INTERVIEW: Heidi Ruby Miller by Basil Sands at The Big Thrill

Image
INTERVIEWS EXCERPT: Due to some business travel to Fairbanks Alaska I had the chance to read STARRIE by Heidi Ruby Miller in two sittings on the same day. And let me just say, I’m glad I had that opportunity. STARRIE is one ripping fast book and a well told story. I loved it! It was a perfect diversion as I looked out the airplane window across the billowing clouds and Alaskan mountains. BASIL: As I read the story I was impressed by the tightness of the writing. How do you recommend new writers achieve good clean prose? HEIDI: Like I tell my writing students at Seton Hill, know your intent for each scene—ideally, you will be showing characterization while moving the plot forward. A few words can be more powerful than an entire page, so make them count by eliminating redundancies, unnecessary gestures and facial expressions, and constant internal questioning by the POV character. Chapter outlines or summaries are a surefire way to keep each scene on task for me. Read the...

EVENT: The SFR Brigade Summer Cafe Space Opera 2

Image
EVENTS Space Opera 2 - JULY 6-12 Since I'm doing an international giveaway for a paperback ( MARKED BY LIGHT or GREENSHIFT ) and an ebook ( MARKED BY LIGHT or GREENSHIFT ), I'm sharing a couple of cocktail-related excerpts from the ambasadora-verse and the recipes to go with them. The chance to enter the giveaway is at the bottom. Enjoy! FROM GREENSHIFT: Mari slid her arm through David's. "Nothing a drunken coffee won't fix. Do you want one?" Say no. He'd had more than enough alcohol tonight. Another drink and his judgment might be impaired. That was one of the reasons he didn't take the stims she offered from the med suite. "What kind of bourbon do you have?" he asked. "Koley's Reserve. What else?" She winked. "You're kidding." He let his skepticism show. "Do you know how difficult that is to get? It's only made in the Koley Mountains, and in very small batches." Even as an Arm...

STARRIE 3.3 Enjoy some Science Fiction Adventure from the Ambasadora-verse! I'm posting excerpts of my novel Starrie in order starting from chapter one. This is the fourteenth post and we're into chapter three. It has been edited for content and space per the SFR Brigade Presents guidelines. Read the rest of the story (uncensored) so far on the Starrie page. And, check out other wonderful Presents posts at the SFR Brigade . STARRIE (FROM THE WORLD OF AMBASADORA) by Heidi Ruby Miller "What the hell?" came a voice behind her. Naela spun around to a battle rifle in her face. The Armadan holding it was the one barking orders during her escape. His age said he was a seasoned leader, but right now he was distracted by the chaos. Growing up the way she did, she learned quickly that distractions were just another type of enemy. She thrust the weapon's short barrel up into his cheek. A cender blast sizzled past from behind them. The Armadan snagged her by...

ANTHOLOGY: Far Worlds Featuring "Rainer" from the Ambasadora Series by Heidi Ruby Miller

Image
Attention AMBASADORA-VERSE fans, there's a story all about the man you love to hate, RAINER, in the third Bolthole anthology, FAR WORLDS. The story takes place right after Ambasadora Book 1: Marked by Light .  And, there's an awesome illustration of Rainer by artist Manuel Mesones in the interior.   Get a sneak peek on Manuel's blog!! Below is the cool premise for the book and the table of contents. Pick up a copy on March 25 and visit the Facebook page for more information! The Premise: Out in the universe, there is predicted to be millions of planets harbouring sentient life, thousands of civilisations of sapient races, going about their lives; struggling, fighting, maybe loving, having adventures, maybe suffering under dystopian tyrants, or in societies of harmony and peace and complacency. These worlds, due to the nature of the speed of light and relativity, will never meet each other in person across the vast stretches of space, and any messages or...

And, check out other wonderful Presents posts at the SFR Brigade . STARRIE (FROM THE WORLD OF AMBASADORA) by Heidi Ruby Miller Naela extinguished the whip and leapt to the floor, disappearing into a crouch behind the bed. She snatched the little tank top Stavros had stripped off her and pulled it on as she dashed for the closet. Inside she shoved past thousands of hanging clothes and walls of beautifully crafted drawers to the secret door in the back. Her implanted wrist reporter spit out the lock's code—stolen when Stavros's security team first dragged her through this secret hallway from the ballroom on the othe...

COVER REVEAL AND PRE-ORDER: Ambasadora: Marked by Light by Heidi Ruby Miller

Image
Finally, the much-anticipated re-release of the book that started the Ambasadora-verse , reworked with a new beginning, cover and foreword. If everyone told you love wasn’t real, would you still be willing to die for it? Sara Mendoza and Sean Cryer are. In their multi-partner, caste-ruled society, love and jealousy are considered emotional fallacies, nothing more than fleeting moods and sentiments biased by hormones. Relationships and conceptions in this world obsessed with celebrity, beauty, and power are based on DNA and lineages…or should be. But not everyone believes in the ruling traditions of the all-powerful Embassy. A quiet rebellion prowls the dark underground of this shiny world where techno-militants calling themselves fraggers grow in numbers and bravado. The Embassy intends to silence the fragger movement before the heresy of equality spreads throughout the system. Sara Mendoza is part of the Embassy’s plan. Captured, tortured, and falsely accused of treason, she ...

SFR Brigade Presents: Starrie 1.5

STARRIE 1.5 Enjoy some Science Fiction Adventure from the Ambasadora-verse! I'm posting my novel Starrie in order starting from chapter one. This is post five.  Read the rest of the story so far here.   And, check out other wonderful posts at the SFR Brigade . STARRIE  (FROM THE WORLD OF AMBASADORA) by Heidi Ruby Miller The chilled air smelled of spice, giving a false sense of comfort to those minutes just before sunset. Above the timberline, but just below the squalling ice storms near the peak, Ben glimpsed part of the great fortress. Its shiny silver reflected the surrounding snow and rock. The structure looked like a double-prowed ship or a wintry bird of prey about to strike. Security voyeurs peppered the sky—hovering, watching, listening. The insulating gel Ben and his team had covered themselves in should dampen any thermal signatures, but it also held in a fair amount of body heat. For Armadans, who ran hot to begin with, the effec...
